Conventional Wisdom // Tall + Traditional Wedding Cakes

five-tiered wedding cake embellished with lemons and flowers

After quite a few years of seeing unique dessert offerings such as doughnuts, cupcakes and pies substituted for the wedding cake (which we also love, of course!), the traditional tall and classic cake is back in!

Cakes stacked in four or more tiers, mainly in classic white buttercream with just the right amount of refined embellishment, are what this year’s brides and grooms are requesting most.  And it’s easy to see why… these wedding cakes are time-honored and appreciated by everyone, they fit perfectly with every style of wedding and they're easy to dress up with subtle decoration in your wedding theme or colors.

Tall, multi-tiered white cakes also are the perfect medium for adding more imaginative, dramatic touches to a wedding reception. Everything from fresh flowers to fondant lace appliqués to chunky piping or even feathers are stunning when graced along multiple cake tiers and make breathtaking statements on display. Look for some really bold color and metallic accents on these magnificent cakes, too!

And don't expect these tall and mighty cakes to sit all by themselves on the dessert table. Event designers will be creating more "cake vignettes", where the wedding cake is displayed amongst a spectacular cornucopia of lush flowers, fresh fruit, candles and more. So even though this year's cakes will be tall and traditional, that doesn't mean they'll be boring!

Here in New Jersey and in the Philadelphia area, there's so many fantastic bakeries creating beautiful, traditional wedding cakes. Just a few of the many who have made some of the most delicious, most gorgeous cakes found at the weddings we've filmed are The Bake Works in Northfield, New Jersey, Palermo Custom Cakes in Little Ferry and The Master's Baker, located in West Chester, Pennsylvania.

And in addition to the many wonderful bakeries in our area, we’re lucky to have local wedding venues who always craft such gorgeous classic cakes!  The Merion in Cinnaminson and all the venues owned and managed by Cescaphe Event Group of Philadelphia have renowned pastry chef teams that create the highest quality and most beautiful custom wedding cakes for the couple of honor.
